While not entirely a result of how I’ve been thinking about my blogging purpose, I feel it’s time to share something a little more serious. At least I think it’s serious, and that’s probably because of how important it is to me:
My relationship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
I’ve written a lot about business for a good couple of years now, both here and other locations. I started because it’s something I am passionate about. You tell me you’re interested in marketing and I get excited. The easiest way to get me to start jabbering about something (or seemingly nothing) is to set me down the path of something business related. But that’s just one side of the coin for me. The other side is God, as I have been a Christian for a good part of my life.
Here has been my debate, both on my blog and in business: How do I represent my beliefs without forcing them on people? It’s my debate because I don’t think you have to talk about God all the time to let people know about him, and I don’t believe in a bible thumping approach.
The intellectual, bible thumping/apologetic approach, in my opinion, is unlikely to be the method to convince someone to make Jesus Lord of their life. It might help, but it’s just not an intellect thing. It’s a spirit and love and life changing thing. I know it sounds corny, but you “win” people through love, not judgment. Clarification helps, but I think most people first listen because you care and invest in them.
That doesn’t mean me, or anyone else who is a Christian is particularly good at loving (or not judging), or that we’ll be perfect, but that’s not really what it’s about, either. It’s really just about loving the Lord, and treating your friends, acquaintances, or strangers with the same respect and care you would yourself. Living a life for Him. Just expressing it that way shows me how I have failed in that area, but I am working toward it.
I share all this because I am going to be adding a topic to this blog: my faith. I am going to try to do this as transparently as possible, and am hoping that by doing that, it will be interesting to those who might at first think they wouldn’t find it interesting. I figure, at the least, if you’re not on your own spiritual journey, you can see some of what mine is like.
That said, I will still be blogging about business. I couldn’t help that even if I wanted to, and I like using this blog as an outlet for that. But I think by adding faith as a topic to this blog, not only will I blog more, but the quality of my posts will most likely be better, and it will improve my abilities in business as well as I get a better grasp of merging two large passions of my life.

Realized when we were talking “blogs” yesterday, I haven’t seen yours since you were interviewing here! So I made sure to add you to my Google Reader. I liked this post! I think taking down the “professional” layers and sometimes infusing topics that are important to you “personally” makes for really compelling content. Bravo! I know you blog is going to become one of my favorite reads!
Thanks, Kirsty!
I agree on the less walls creates more compelling content sentiment. I just hope that I am able to write in a compelling enough way to fulfill that thought in the same!
