This would have been a quickie on Twitter but it was busy having the shock paddles slapped to its chest as they try desperately to elongate its life until the next downtime (“Clear!”). All that to say, I was doing some market research earlier today and came across an article by ClickZ.

“[People] are willing to shop online because it is convenient and a time-saver, but they also do not like sending personal or credit card information over the Internet,” the report states.

No way! You mean people are nervous about sending their personal or credit info over the internet? Who would have thought! What’s unfortunate is that this report doesn’t seem to provide more pertinent info like, say, does this distate/nervousness for sending personal or financial information over the internet have significant impact (or even noteworthy impact) on actual e-commerce sales?

In short, the answer is no, it’s not so risky people won’t buy. At least not when online clothing sales is averaging something around a 30% growth rate per year as the overallĀ  e-commerce market is somewhere above 170b (and experience fine growth itself).

The takeaway? Be considerate of people’s concerns and do what you can to ensure their personal and financial information’s safety. We can only hope e-commerce companies have already been doing this :)
