Why exams are silly.
December 13, 2007 – 3:53 pmAs it’s finals week, I am spending a fair portion of time studying. I’ve always felt essay exams are a much better representation of what you know that multiple choice exams. As I was studying for a multiple choice exam, a great example as to why came about.
Surveys indicate that between _________ percent of Americans are either looking for another job or would leave if offered a similar job with slightly higher pay.
The answer is between 30 and 50%.
Seeing as how the whole idea of learning this stuff is to be able to understand business better and put it to good use for my employer, I fail to see this as being useful. If, however, at some point in the future I end up quoting to my boss “You know, 30 to 50% of American’s would leave their job if asked or are looking for another job,” and his response is to promote me, I’ll post a picture of me eating my flip-flops (I don’t wear shoes). In the event my boss reads my blog, I recount my previous statement (though that would be an odd contingency for a promotion).
