Five types of employees organizations crave
December 4, 2007 – 10:00 amAn article from AdAge, clipped it in part for reference and in part because it now requires a subscription to read (blast!).
Thinking about which I am, I would say I have the hacker mentality with half the skills (I used to code). Being technologically curious has in part lead to some of my consultant work. Online eavesdropping is something I have written about a fair amount here as well as developing my own tool for (Hello, Hacker), so I’ve got my foot in that one, too. Minor datahead. I’ve done some small research on Digg/SU/Delicious. Trailblazing, yeah, work in that environment right now. I’m wondering what the commonality between other Gen Y’ers are when it comes to these categories.
Quick excerpt from each:
Hackers
These people signed up early as Facebook developers, trade the latest apps and regularly hack around on Organic’s own social network (called Organism) to add new functionality, change their template, hide Easter eggs and leave us special ’surprises.’
Technologically Curious
Everybody needs to be curious about and aware of what kinds of digital innovations are cropping up and where marketers might fit into them.
Online Eavesdroppers
Conversations are going on all over the web about brands and products — and agencies and marketers are increasingly looking for people who can help mine those insights
Dataheads
the companies that are able to use data to their advantage, building relationships and unearthing trends, will be the big winners.
Trailblazers
they can compete by having environments that foster and require innovative thinking and challenges to conventional wisdom.

Hm interesting. I’d like to think I’m one of those… perhaps number 2?

While I don’t know you hugely well, from what I have read of yours and seen, I think you could say with a good degree of confidence that you are technologically curious, Lisa :)

Hey Idetrorce, thanks for stopping by.
I am curious to know what don’t you agree with about the article? You don’t think the titles described are appropriate, or that they’re missing some?
I would certainly agree that they miss the overall concept of Gen Yers melding into various titles.
Would like to hear your thoughts.
