I always remind myself to let everyone know before I am going to be away for 2 or more days. Somehow, though, I always manage to forget. Kind of like “Remember to take out the trash, remember to take out the trash, remember to take out the trash.” Then you go to leave, and you forget to take out the trash.

Anyhow, here are some quick streams of thought as I reflect on the retreat, think about the weekend etc.

Retreat: This was my second time going UNCW’s InterVarsity Christian Fellowship retreat. It was awesome. I am on leadership this year, so I wasn’t quite sure if I would like it as much as the last year. None the less, I love getting to know people, so it was a blast.

Facebook: After I got back from the retreat I noticed something very interesting.

    1. The first thing everyone did when they got back from the retreat was get on facebook (this includes me).
    2. Once on facebook, they looked up every new person they met on the retreat and friended them.
    3. Posted on new friend’s walls, looked at what their interests are, etc.
    4. Following the mass friend adding comes the uploading of all photos taken and the tagging of all people in photos.
    5. Tonight and tomorrow, the comments will begin to stream in on the newly uploaded photos and conversations will begin.

I’ve seen the above happen time and time again with college students (It probably happens with others, too). I’ve even seen people comment on the fact that everyone does it- but no one seems to care. From a marketing perspective, the above is a good process to know.

Employment: I’ve been thinking about employment after I graduate a lot. Especially within the context of what I currently do. I love being creative and not being pigeon holed into just one thing. This has lead me to a great fit with what I do now. I’m developing a new product (user generated content site) and marketing for a company I work for and also work doing social media consultant stuff. There are a number of factors that make me wonder if this is what I want to do after I graduate, though. Time will tell (love the gal I work with doing consultant stuff).

Social Bookmarking/Search: Been taking a closer look as to how del.icio.us and stumble upon might relate to one another. Will report findings when I’m done.

New Marketing: Beginning to see the increased importance of search engine marketing and search engine optimization when it comes to the appropriate tracking of conversations, blogging, and so forth. Spending a good amount of time learning more about it all and practicing. Thirty Day Challenge is a great resource.

Woodwork: I’ve been wanting to build a spice rack for, well, my spices (and the all the neat spices I want to get). I think I may Google a few nicely designed ones online and then sketch something up myself.
